There is a STRONG possibility for abuse of power and accountability. This charter school is in the community i worked in and this family who ran it created a shadow Board of Directors that were separate from what their legal document said, leaving the existing Board powerless to control Administration. Also, I’m concerned with teachers’ working rights to be honored in this model. Maybe other Charter schools have setup better models dealing with these issues…
This doesn’t surprise me. Polls have long showed that minority communities STRONGLY favor alternatives to traditional public schools.
as long as disinvestment of people of color communities continues & the tax base leaves, we’ll always be looking for alternatives.
