Sunshine Blogger Project
March 14, 2008 by libertyisforme
Today, I sent an email to my Florida Governor and asked him if I could get a copy of his emails from the past four days.
Pursuant to the state open records law, Fla. Stat. Ann. Secs. 119.01 to 119.19, I write to request access to and a copy of all governmental e-mail (electronic mail) received by the Office of the Governor of Florida for the four (4) day period beginning on or after 12:00 am (midnight) Friday, March 7, 2008 and ending before 12:00 a.m. (midnight) Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Since, by definition, e-mail is electronic, I would request that all the records produced as part of these two (2) requests be provided to me in electronic form at my e-mail address.
….
Many thanks.
Why did I do this? Because I am part of Sunshine Blogger Project!
- The Sunshine Blogger Project is a national project, where bloggers in all 50 states send an open records request to the Office of the Governor.
- The purpose of the project is to find out whether America’s governors properly archive the e-mail that comes into and goes out of their offices, and are able to provide copies of those e-mails when members of the public request them.
It was super easy, the sunshine website does everything for you, all you need to do is figure out who in Governor’s office handles open records request.
I can’t wait to hear what Charlie, my governor, has to say. I hope it’s juicy stuff.
