Dowd and Friedman

I’d guess that a sizable chunk of conservatives and libertarians think Maureen Dowd and Tom Friedman are columnists not worthy of reading. Friedman just doesn’t get economics and Dowd is an evil, fire-breathing liberal.
Once the NYT opinion page opened up for free online, I started checking them out…quite skeptical (of Dowd) at first. Slowly they grew on me. Now I find they’re among my favorite. She’s fun and easy, like a quick fiction thriller, and he’s rich and intelligent. They may not always sufficiently reinforce my pre-existing worldview, but I guess that’s okay on occasion.
If you get a chance, check out their recent columns, linked below, and let me know what you think.
Dowd: Two against the one
Friedman: What did we expect?

I liked the Friedman article; it’s refreshing especially considering my only other exposure to him was his initially insightful but ultimately hyper-wordy/redundant “The World is Flat”. As far as Dowd, “eh”. I’d have to read some more of her work, which I really have no urge to do so after reading that one.
I agree with Nic on Dowd, the extended dramatic scene she tries to set up just really does not fit in a column,
